TRANSCENDING BORDERS
Building Bridges through the Arts

The Festival of International Books and Arts (FESTIBA) was established in 2006 to promote the importance of literacy, culture and the arts to students, parents, educators and community members throughout the Rio Grande Valley. With the theme Transcending Borders: Building Bridges Through the Arts, FESTIBA 2018 will take place February 26 through March 3.

The imagery for FESTIBA 2018 is the dandelion. Dandelions are symbolic of positivity, progress and survival. In a sense, the dandelion can be a symbol of life. It is a plain and unimpressive weed with extremely strong roots. When it goes to seed, it is suddenly beautiful, fluffy and white, standing proudly above the grass and weeds. The dandelion can also be associated with hope and dreams that come true. When children blow on dandelion fluff, they close their eyes and make a wish. When they see a dandelion head, they are reminded of all the things they have and will wish for.

Join us for FESTIBA 2018, as we discover the arts as a humanizing force that has a great potential to build bridges throughout the world between cultures and communities. FESTIBA 2018 will explore the power of the arts to encourage connections, as it moves between peoples and countries and across time.
