RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – JAN. 8, 2018 – UTRGV students will have the opportunity to learn about volunteering and service-learning opportunities at the Engagement Zone, where local nonprofit agencies will have representatives on hand to connect with students.

Students also will be able to create their own personal profile on the Engagement Zone, the university’s volunteer platform, and take a look at all the volunteer opportunities that interest them.

The event will be festive as well as informative, with free food, fun and conversations about how students can give back to their communities.

The event coincides with the Martin Luther King Day of Service. Taking place on the third Monday in January, the MLK Jr. Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – “a day on, not a day off.” On that day, UTRGV students, student organizations and campus departments serve as volunteers at a variety of projects hosted across the Rio Grande Valley.
