UTRGV joins Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, McAllen Chamber of Commerce, to host BEDES 2015

McALLEN, TEXAS – OCT. 21, 2015 – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Department of Economics and Finance in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship is partnering with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce to host the 2015 Border Economics, Development and Entrepreneurship Symposium (BEDES) from 8:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Nov. 10, at the McAllen Country Club.

Organizers predict the rapid growth of the Rio Grande Valley will require significant investments in infrastructure and services to support economic growth, thereby presenting Texas-Mexico business owners, entrepreneurs and others with interesting investment opportunities. 

BEDES 2015 organizers are inviting the community to hear from Texas Reserve Bank of Dallas experts and community leaders in discussions on the Valley’s transportation and electronic infrastructure and predictions on what the future holds for the border region’s economy.

Conference speakers include:

  • Rigo Villarreal, superintendent, McAllen-Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridges, City of McAllen.
  • Jordana Barton, senior community development advisor, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, San Antonio Branch.
  • Caroline A. Mays, AICP, interim director, Freight and International Trade Section, Texas Department of Transportation.
  • Dr. Robert Coronado, assistant vice president in charge and senior economist, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch.
  • Dr. Jorge Vidal, lecturer, UTRGV Department of Economics and Finance. 

Attendees will also be able to view and discuss research by UTRGV students related to the border region economy.
