Mindfulness Meditation Drop-In Group

This drop-in mindfulness meditation group is open for beginners as well as those more experienced with meditation. We will begin with a welcome and brief instruction/topic followed by a 20-minute sit. Staff will then be available for questions/discussion. You are encouraged to bring a yoga mat or beach towel to sit on for your comfort.

Group Membership
Students are not required to attend every session and new students can join anytime.

Self-Portrait

Self-Portrait is a weekly 60-minute group for self-esteem building and improving self-acceptance. Each week this group will explore the many facets and aspects that make up our unique self and together make up our self-portrait.

Group Membership
Students are not required to attend every session and new students can join anytime.

Trauma Processing Group

In this trauma group you will learn self-regulation skills, identify and combat intrusive thoughts, identify triggers, and discuss your traumatic event with individuals who have gone through similar experiences. By being in a group with a number of people struggling with the same problem, you can see that you are not alone in your struggles. This is an excellent way of receiving social support from others. To increase effectiveness of the intervention, the group will be limited to three students.

Group Membership
A screening evaluation by the Counseling Center is required in order to join the group. If you are interested, call the Counseling Center at 956-882-3897 and make an appointment with Martha Sanchez, M.Ed., LPC, or email her directly at martha.sanchez01@utrgv.edu.
