International Travel
UTRGV continues to restrict business travel internationally.
Individuals conducting personal travel outside the United States are required to report their travel to the University. Please complete the Self-Reporting Travel Form to let us know about your recent travel or your upcoming travel plans.
Members of the UTRGV community who reside or must make frequent trips to Mexico border cities abutting the Rio Grande Valley Counties are not required to complete the travel form. Any travel beyond the border cities requires the completion of the travel form.
International travel is highly discouraged at this time.
Domestic Travel
UTRGV continues to restrict business travel outside the state of Texas. If travel is already booked, it may remain booked until seven (7) days prior to the expected date.
Personal travel outside Texas no longer requires the completion of the travel form.
Travel Protocol
With the domestic and global spread of COVID-19, UTRGV continues to strongly discourage all personal domestic and international travel. Travel increases your chances of contracting and spreading COVID-19.
Before you travel, learn if coronavirus is spreading in your local area or in any of the places you are going. Traveling to visit family may be especially dangerous if you or your loved ones are more likely to get very ill from COVID-19. People at higher risk for severe illness need to take extra precautions.
For any questions regarding University related travel please contact Travel Services Office at travel@utrgv.edu, (956) 665-2161, 665-2612, 882-3822.
Our main concern continues to be the health, safety, and security of our UTRGV community. We appreciate your patience and cooperation while we work through this unprecedented situation.

Updated: March 30, 2020
Governor Abbott has issued additional Executive Orders regarding travel to protect public safety and further combat the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Texas.
- Effective noon, March 30, road travelers arriving in Texas from any location in Louisiana will be mandated to quarantine for 14 days. This mandated quarantine will not apply to travel related to commercial activity, military service, emergency response, health response, or critical infrastructure functions.

Travel Protocol
UTRGV strongly discourages all personal domestic (outside the four-county region) and international travel. All University employees and students returning from travel from outside the UTRGV four-county region are required to report their travel to the University.
Please complete this Self-Reporting Travel form to let us know about your recent travel or your upcoming travel plans. After the completion of the form, your supervisor will contact you informing you if you are approved to return to work.
International Travel
UTRGV continues to restrict all international business travel.
Domestic Travel
All state agencies are required to cancel all non-essential business travel. If travel is already booked, it may remain booked until seven (7) days prior to the expected date.
Domestic business travel out of the UTRGV four-county region (Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy, and Cameron) has been suspended.
Travel to and from Mexico
We understand that a portion of our workforce commutes from Mexico daily to perform job duties for UTRGV. Previously, we provided guidance to individuals that they would be required to complete a Self-Reporting Travel form for review by our UT Health Infectious Diseases Committee for evaluation if they had recently traveled outside our four-county region.
Effectively immediately, and until further notice, if your position with UTRGV continues to require you to complete your job duties onsite, you will not be required to complete a travel document each time you commute from Mexico. Please know that you should carry your UTRGV ID daily as evidence of your essential status with the university. If you have lost or damaged your UTRGV ID, please contact the Office of Human Resources for guidance.
If you are traveling to an area in Mexico aside from the Mexico border cities abutting the Rio Grande Valley counties you should complete the Self-Reporting Travel form.
Thank you for your patience during this extremely fluid situation. Our main concern continues to be the health, safety, and security of our UTRGV community.
