Fall 2016 Data Summit
Dr. Maria Salazar from University of Denver will be joining us in the morning. Her areas of expertise include teacher preparation and assessment for culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
We will spend the afternoon analyzing and reflecting on teacher candidate performance data from our inaugural year as UTRGV.
Who can attend Fall 2016 Data Summit?
All faculty from the College of Education and P-16 Integration as well as faculty from other colleges who teach in teacher preparation programs are invited to attend.

Areas of Expertise
Professional BiographyDr. Salazar’s research and scholarship center on transformative teacher preparation for diverse learners through empirical research and promising practices in teacher recruitment, preparation, and professional development. Her research and teaching fields include teacher education, linguistically diverse education, and college readiness for Latina/o students. Dr. Salazar has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on the sociocultural interactions between teachers and students in K-12 classrooms that sustain humanizing pedagogies, humanizing teacher preparation, and college access and success for Latina/o students. She has given over 30 scholarly presentations and 20 national keynote presentations on her research areas. In addition, she is the lead author of a widely circulated policy document titled, The state of Latinos 2008: Defining an agenda for the future. This document was presented to members of the U.S. Congress in Washington D.C. and distributed to all members of the U.S. Congress. Dr. Salazar served for three years on the Colorado Quality Teachers Commission to design a teacher identifier system for the state of Colorado. She is also a member of the Colorado Higher Education Linguistically Diverse Education group. She has served for four years on the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC), a national collaborative to revise model content standards and develop learning progressions for teacher licensure, assessment, and development. She is also currently a member of the University of Denver’s Faculty Senate. Research Interests

The Data Summit will convene the faculty of the College of Education and P-16 Integration (CEP). The main purpose for this event is to promote the development of a culture of inquiry for continuous improvement. Faculty from other colleges who collaborate in the preparation of teachers are invited to participate. The Data Summit will provide faculty with a collective space to focus on quality, engage in the inquiry cycle, and make data driven decisions for program and student outcome improvement.
