SAT Prep Course

South Texas students seeking to raise their SAT scores in preparation for college applications now have option of enrolling in the UTRGV SAT Prep Course. This course offers complete SAT preparation that goes beyond great classroom instruction and includes realistic practice exams, personalized score analysis, detailed individualized score reports, adaptable course materials, and personalized assignments.

The Office of Continuing Education has teamed up with Knowsys Test Prep to offer this highly effective preparation course. The strength of our program is our adaptable curriculum with its dual emphasis on strategy and content. We offer well-rounded and complete preparation courses that provide students a unique combination of vital test-taking strategies, time-saving tips and shortcuts, and thorough content review. During the course, students learn the Knowsys SAT test-taking strategies and systematically review the math, verbal and writing content tested on the current SAT. It includes two practice tests and 33 hours of classroom instruction. After each practice test, students receive Personalized Score Reports that identify their strengths and weaknesses. *As part of the University SAT Prep course, we provide a three-hour informational seminar by an Admission specialist that is open to registered students and their parents, if requested in advance. In this seminar, vital information is provided on managing the university-admissions process, applying for scholarships, and writing effective application essays.

  • Mr. Alejandro Martinez (Math)

    Alejandro (Alex) Martinez received both his undergraduate and post-baccalaureate degrees from the University of Texas-Pan American where he received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics, and a Masters of Science in Mathematics. Since completing his studies, he has worked at both UTPA and UTRGV as a lecturer since Fall 2014. As a lecturer, he has taught a variety of courses including college algebra, elementary statistics, introductory algebra, contemporary mathematics, fundamentals of math I and II, business algebra, and math for music and art. His interests include algorithms, RADAR, imaging, and game development, and he has presented research in RADAR at several professional conferences.
  • Mr. Dennis Garza (Verbal)

    Dennis Garza earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and a Master of Arts in English Literature with emphasis is Mexican-American Studies from University of Texas Pan American. Since 2011, he has served as a lecturer at both UTPA and UTRGV in the Department of English, teaching courses in rhetoric, composition, technical writing, diversity in communication, and has led professional writing workshops in both university and community settings. He has served as a presenter at several national conferences, showcasing his work on Chicano activism and the struggles of children in poor communities.
