Graduates
As soon as your degree plan has been posted to your UTRGV transcript and you have been recommended for teacher certification by UTRGV, you may submit the State application for your teaching certificate through your TEAL account. A fee must be paid at the time of application. In addition, you must submit to a background check and fingerprinting to be employed in a Texas school. A fee is charged when your appointment is scheduled.
Apply for your teaching certificate.
New Graduates
UTeach graduates who are hired as classroom teachers in the Rio Grande Valley receive two (2) years of induction support from the UTeach Program. This support includes mentoring by a UTeach master teacher and opportunities for professional development.
As a new teacher, you are strongly encouraged to become involved in professional organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) or the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
Alumni
Anyone who has completed a UTeach program is considered to be a UTeach alumnus and is automatically a member of UTeach Nation for free. The network supports mathematics and science teachers with resources that allow them to connect with their fellow alumni from around the state and the country and learn about news, upcoming events, and instructional resources.
Members of UTeach Nation are supported by dedicated UTeach Institute staff through active Facebook and Twitter accounts, a bi-monthly newsletter, and professional development resources and opportunities. An annual conference to bring together UTeach alumni is held each summer.
