New Student Scholarships - Entering & Transfer Students

Merit Based Scholarships-Entering Freshmen

A scholarship application is NOT necessary. Admitted students will be selected competitively on a first-come-first-serve basis; therefore, you are highly encouraged to apply for admissions as soon as possible.

UTRGV Scholars Program

  • Renewable for 4 year of undergraduate study, or until graduation whichever comes first
  • Valued up to $20,000

UTRGV Housing Scholarship

  • Renewable for 4 year of undergraduate study, or until graduation whichever comes first
  • Valued up to $12,000

Entering Freshman Gateway

  • One time award
  • Valued up to $3,000

UTRGV and Departmental Scholarships

These scholarships are funded through a variety of memorials and endowments. Recipients are selected on a competitive basis. Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and divided equally between Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters.

Priority is given to students who have not already received an institutional scholarship.

Endowed Scholarships

Due to the generous contributions of corporations, foundations, organizations, and individual donations, these scholarships are awarded based on merit, need and other various criterion.

  • Most are available to all majors.
  • Full-time enrollment status
  • Most require U.S. citizenship or legal permanent resident status (International students are still encouraged to apply).
  • Awards range from $250 to $3,200 annually.
  • Scholarship are not automatically renewed; students must reapply each year.
  • Open to all classifications, undergraduate and graduate

All high school seniors are encouraged to apply starting October 1, 2016. The application must be submitted online by Jan. 15, 2017.

VAMOS/UTRGV Endowed Scholarship Program

The Foundation and Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS) have partnered to create the VAMOS/UTRGV Endowed Scholarship Program.

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Be Pell Grant Eligible
  • Graduate from a high school in Hidalgo, Cameron or Starr County
  • Renewable for 4 years of undergraduate study, or until graduation, whichever comes first
  • Valued up to $10,000

All high school seniors are encouraged to apply starting October 1, 2016. The application must be submitted online by Feb. 15, 2017.

Transfer students may be eligible to apply for one of the scholarships below:
2 year renewable valued up to $3,000

2 year renewable valued up to $2,000

  • Valley Scholars Transfer Scholarship

2 year renewable valued up to $4,000

  • Coastal Bend Transfer Merit Scholarship
  • Laredo Community College Transfer Scholarship
