STEER is a 4 week elective that transforms current and future health professionals by providing a compelling, community-based, educational experience that allows them to make the connection between the environment, public health and medicine.
South Texas Environmental Education and Research (STEER) immerse health professions students and faculty in the unique culture and environment of the Texas-Mexico Border. Our purpose is to reunite Medicine and Public Health. Students may choose to take STEER in Harlingen for a practicum or elective. Many universities offer course credit. Our students come from medical and public health schools across the US. Students find themselves in a new learning environment every day that allows them to link theory and practice.
