Medical Education

The Department of Medical Education is committed to training culturally competent medical students, residents and biomedical scientists who are passionate about providing excellent health care to diverse populations and improve health outcomes throughout the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.

Our goal is to provide a forward-thinking medical education experience dedicated to scientific, evidence-based, patient-centered medicine to serve all communities, including those underserved.

Medical students have the opportunity to participate in team-based interprofessional education that emphasizes patient-centeredness and social justice through participation in community outreach initiatives with students from other colleges within UTRGV.

Residents training at our partner hospitals throughout the Valley will receive an education that emphasizes empathy, humanism, sound professional and ethical knowledge, as well as the skills and attitudes needed to provide excellent health care. Residents will develop personal, clinical and professional competence while delivering care to a diverse and medically underserved region under the supervision of faculty who are leaders in their respective specialties in medicine.
