The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine’s interim dean, Dr. Steven A. Lieberman, assumed his post in July 2016.
Lieberman, a native of San Antonio, joined the faculty of the UT Medical Branch at Galveston in 1994 and has served in various leadership roles since, including as senior dean for administration and professor of internal medicine at UTMB since 2013.
At UTMB, Lieberman oversees the medical student education program and is co-chairman of the UT System Transformation in Medical Education (TIME) project. He has served in many educational capacities and received local and statewide recognition for his educational work from students and peers.
In addition to his educational leadership at UTMB, he serves as director of the UT System-wide Innovations in Health Science Education Program. He continues to see general endocrinology patients and has a special interest in pituitary disorders.
He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed an internal medicine residency in San Jose, California; an endocrinology fellowship at Stanford University; and served on the faculty at George Washington University before joining UTMB.
