Student Privacy

In compliance with the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the UTRGV SOM will not disclose personally identifiable information contained in student education records, except as authorized by law.

In general, a student has the right under FERPA to:

  • Inspect her or his education records
  • Require that the University obtain his or her prior written consent before releasing personally identifiable information from education records
  • Request that corrections be made to education records if the student believes the records are inaccurate, misleading or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to restrict the release of certain components of their directory information, such as their email addresses, mailing addresses, and photographs. These restrictions can be made online through the student portal.
