Brittany Mendez, San Benito High School
I had a great time assisting them at the Regional Science and Engineering Fair. I assisted as a high school student throughout my years as a student at San Benito HS. It was a wonderful experience and I hope to continue in the near future.

Competing in science fair was a tremendous learning experience. It taught me dedication, determination, and ultimately how to look at everything around me in a different way. Becoming Regional Grand Champion I received the incredible experience to travel to California and compete on the same level with some of the brightest minds from all over the world, I wouldn't change that experience for anything.

Participating in the Rio Grande Valley Regional Science & Engineering Fair (RGVRSEF) has been an intellectually inspiring and transformative experience for me. I have always been interested in learning more about how the world around me works and trying to come up with solutions to solve its most pressing problems. And the science fair gave me the perfect platform to nurture and showcase these interests. Over the course of my four years in high school, the science fair gave me the opportunity to engage in a variety of fascinating research projects. During judging, I got to interact with experts in my research area and get feedback on how to improve future research. As part of the process, I also had the opportunity to meet many interesting peers who were passionate about discovering new scientific knowledge. There is a particular joy that comes from discussing the intricacies of a research problem with others. Participation in RGVRSEF has qualified me to attend the ExxonMobil Texas Science & Engineering Fair (EMTSEF) for the past three years and the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) for the past two years, and these have been highly enriching experiences. When I placed at EMTSEF my freshman year, I had the opportunity to participate in the one week Governor’s Science & Technology Champions Academy at the University of Houston where I met incredible science enthusiasts from all over Texas, many of whom I remain in touch with today. And when I had the chance to attend Intel ISEF my sophomore and junior years, I met amazing peers from all over the world while also attending interesting scientific symposia and getting advice from panels of Nobel laureates. I cannot begin to describe how these experiences have broadened my perspective and helped me to grow both as an aspiring scientist/engineer and as a person. I am infinitely grateful to everyone involved in RGVRSEF for all that they have done to make this amazing event a reality. I wish I could contact every middle and high schooler interested in science or engineering in the Valley in order to encourage him or her to participate in this exceptional event.

I had a great time in participating in the 55th RGV Regional Science & Engineering Fair as a judge. I felt it was organized very well, it provided a great platform for the local young talents to show their creativity and enthusiasm for science exploration, and for science & engineering professionals to serve the RGV community. I really like the wonderful experience and look forward to attending the 56th one next year.

I really enjoyed being a judge for science fair because the students can interact with us. I loved listening to them about their projects and listening how well they can present and explain their projects! I loved the experience and I would love to do it again.

As a first time judge to the regional science fair I had a wonderful time interacting with the participants. The honor of judging middle school projects which turned out to be very difficult in choosing the best entry. All the students were very knowledgeable about their work and passionate. I do recommend that the score sheets be separated for each entry. I found it difficult trying to score an entry with out letting another contestant see my previous scores. I didn't have enough room for notes. As a whole I had a great time. Thanks again and I hope to judge again next year.
