Set Up Voicemail

Brownsville-Harlingen Campuses

1. From the telephone with your assigned extension, access the voicemail system (may vary by device model):

2. Enter the default Personal Identification Number (PIN)5928852 and press #.

3. The system will prompt you to record a Recorded Name

4. The system will then prompt you to record a Personal Greeting.

5. Next, you will be prompted to change your PIN

    • Note: Changing your PIN is required to complete the voicemail enrollment process. 

PIN requirements:

  • PIN may not contain your telephone extension number.

  • PIN must be at least 6-digits long.

  • PIN may not contain the same digit more than twice in a row.

  • PIN may not contain all consecutive digits.

Your voicemail enrollment is complete. You can now manage your voicemail messages, edit your greetings, and change your voicemail PIN through the automated system menu.

6. Press * to Exit and end the call.

Edinburg-McAllen-Rio Grande City-South Padre Island Campuses

Step 1: Request Voicemail Messaging Service

To request Voicemail Messaging Service, submit an IT Service Request in ServiceNow:

  1. Log in to my.utrgv.edu.

  2. Click the ServiceNow icon under Applications.

  3. Click Service Request under Need new service?

  4. Select Self or On Behalf of under Options.

    • Note: Select On Behalf of, if you're opening a request on behalf of someone else.

  5. Select Name of person requesting the service.

    • Note: Your name is the default. If you're submitting a request on behalf of someone else, click the magnifying glass search icon to search for their name. Verify the user you selected is correct by hovering the mouse pointer over the User Information icon.

  6. Enter the Contact Number of the person requesting the service where they can be contacted directly for a follow-up.

  7. Enter the City, Building, and Room location where the requested service is needed.

    • Note: This information is necessary to ensure a technician is dispatched to the correct location, if needed.

  8. For Configuration Item, enter Telephone Services.

  9. For Short Description, enter Set Up Voicemail Messaging Service

  10. For Service Request Description, enter New user access to Voicemail Messaging Service.

  11. Click Order Now.

    • Note: Telephone Services will contact you if additional information is needed.

Step 2: Initialize Your Voicemail Box  

  1. Open email from Telephone Services containing your temporary password.

  2. Using your desk phone, enter the temporary password to access your voicemail box.

  3. Follow the voice prompts to re-set your password.

Password Requirements:

  • Must be at least 5-digits long.

  • May not begin with a zero.

  • May not contain consecutive digits.

  • May not be your telephone extension number.

Step 3: Change Your Voicemail Messaging Service Password

To change your Voicemail Messaging Service password, using your desk phone:

  1. Call the voicemail number (Ext. 2232). 
  2. Enter the temporary password.
  3. Press 5 for Personal Options.
  4. Press 4 to change your Password.
  5. Follow the voice prompts.
