Purchase Desktop and Laptop Computers through iShop

UTRGV offers a database of laptop and desktop computers that are pre-approved to meet certain specifications regarding the computer’s RAM, processing abilities, etc. Follow the steps below to access this database and purchase a computer.

How to Buy a Pre-Approved Desktop or Laptop through iShop:

  1. Click the iShop button under Applications on the myUTRGV homepage.
  2. Click the Pre-Approved Computers button on the iShop homepage under UTRGV Showcased Suppliers.
  3. Click PunchOut.
  4. Click on Dell or HP Standard LaptopsStandard Desktops, Tablets, or Accessories.
  5. Click Configure once you find the device you wish to purchase.
  6. Click Add to Cart.
  7. Click Shopping Cart when ready to check out.
  8. Click Check Out.
  9. Click Finish to submit your order in iShop.
  10. Once in iShop, click Proceed to Checkout or Assign Cart (if applicable).

How to Buy a Non-Pre-Approved Desktop or Laptop through iShop:

PLEASE NOTE: For purchases of other brands and non-pre-approved computers, the purchaser is responsible for handling warranty repairs for the computer. The computer desktop support team is not responsible for delays or an extended period of downtime caused by outside technical support.

  1. Request an IT consultation to purchase computers in iShop.
  2. IT will contact you.
  3. The computer will be configured and the vendor will be contacted.
  4. The quote will be emailed to the customer.
  5. Submit purchase through iShop. For assistance, contact your departmental support staff.
  6. IT will receive the computer and install software and a standard operating system.

UTRGV Computer Standards

UTRGV Computer Standards have been set to eliminate purchasing computers that do not meet security standards, do not meet performance requirements to run university applications and software efficiently, are out of date or obsolete.

UTRGV Computer Desktop Support

UTRGV technicians are certified to perform warranty work for HP, Dell, and Apple on the list of pre-approved computers and receive replacement parts within 24hrs. This shortens the downtime caused by having to perform computer repairs.
For purchases of other brands and non-approved computers, the purchaser is responsible for handling warranty repairs for the computer. The computer desktop support team is not responsible for delays or an extended period of downtime caused by outside technical support.

UTRGV Computer Purchase and Delivery process

Information Technology has improved the computer purchasing process to reduce the time it takes from purchasing through delivery. The computer purchasing process now takes approximately 15 business days or less, depending on timely project manager purchase approvals in iShop.

Process for purchasing computers in iShop

  1. Customer submits Requisition for approval to create Purchase Order.
  2. The vendor receives and processes Purchase Order and ships computer to UTRGV Central Receiving.
  3. UTRGV Central Receiving receives the shipment and scans asset tag into Oracle.
  4. Central Receiving notifies and schedules the delivery with Computer Desktop Support Team.
  5. Computer Desktop Support Team places the computer in the UTRGV domain, runs software updates, and encrypts the hard-drive.
  6. Computer Desktop Support member schedules delivery and sets up the computer for the customer.
