RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – JULY 10, 2018 – The U.S. News & World Report has listed The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine as one of the most affordable medical schools in the country for out-of-state students.

UTRGV School of Medicine tuition for full-time, out-of-state students is listed at $31,398 for the 2017-2018 academic school year, ranking it the third-most affordable medical school in the country for out-of-state students in the 2017-2018 school year, after University of Central Florida and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.

The UTRGV SOM also is among the most affordable schools for in-state students at $18,298 for the 2017-2018 academic school year.

UTRGV’s ranking is listed in the news magazine’s “10 Affordable Medical Schools for Out-of-State Students,” which is part of The U.S. News Short List. The Short List is a regular series that, according to the news magazine, “magnifies individual data points in hopes of providing students and parents a way to find which undergraduate or graduate programs excel or have room to grow in specific areas.” It is separate from U.S. News & World Report’s overall rankings.

ABOUT UTRGV
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
