Readiness workshop for incoming UTRGV freshmen provides hands-on preparation for engineering degree

A group of incoming UTRGV freshmen have fun with rockets

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – JUNE 16, 2017 – Dr. Yingchen Yang, associate professor in the UTRGV Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering and Computer Science, helped a group of incoming UTRGV freshmen have fun with rockets during a recent visit to the Sports Park in Brownsville. The students are participating in the UTRGV Engineering Readiness Summer Workshop – a camp designed to help them get a jumpstart on their engineering degree. Students participated in a review of engineering math and calculus preparation, and were able to practice engineering skills like rocket science. Here, the students are testing rockets they built themselves during the readiness workshop.
