RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – AUG. 30, 2017 – Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine has ranked The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley third in the nation in awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanic students.

The magazine this week released its “Top 100 2017 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics,” which ranks the top schools in the country in enrolling and awarding degrees to Hispanic students.

Hispanic Outlook used information from surveys conducted in 2015 by the National Center for Education Statistics. The magazine combined data from UTRGV’s legacy institutions, UT Brownsville/Texas Southmost College and UT Pan American, to determine the new university’s rankings.

“These rankings show that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is a leader in providing exceptional education and expanding opportunities to students of the Valley and beyond,” said Dr. Patricia Alvarez-McHatton, interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs for UTRGV.

UTRGV also ranked high on the magazine’s list in the following categories:

  • Third in awarding first major mathematics and statistics degrees.
  • Fifth in total enrollment among two- and four-year institutions.
  • Fifth in awarding master’s degrees.
  • Fifth in homeland security law enforcement firefighting degrees.
  • Sixth in awarding first major psychology degrees.
  • Ninth in awarding first major business management marketing degrees.
