Center Activity IV - Student Research
Activity Director: Dr. Richard H. Fowler
The C-STEM Student Research Program at UTRGV provides opportunities for students and faculty to conduct research together in areas of interest to the U.S. Dept. of Defense (DoD) with the goals of retaining students in STEM, increasing the number of students receiving bachelor’s degrees in STEM, and increasing the number of students who enter STEM graduate programs. Moreover, having faculty working in DoD areas of interest will provide faculty with opportunities to learn more about applications in their fields and consequently provide them with an initial foundation to apply for funding.
The C-STEM Student Research Program provides support for undergraduate students to conduct research with faculty in DoD research areas of interest. The students must meet the following qualifications: be an undergraduate student with a major in any of the STEM disciplines, be a full-time student in the fall and spring semesters, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
Student participants receive $2500 each semester, including summer, as well as, $1000 in travel funds annually for conference travel or for research participation at other institutions, for example. Projects may receive up to $1,000 annually for expendable materials and supplies or student software, for instance, that are used by the student in the project.
Applications for the 2015-2016 academic year are due Wednesday, September 25, 2015 (tentative) and should be submitted at the Center of Excellence in STEM Education at MAGC 2.402. For more information on the application process, please download the application below.
