Welcome To UTRGV's Computer Science

Computer Science (CS) is the study of computer systems including hardware and software. As a CS student, not only will you learn programming languages, but also learn how to design systems, learn how people interact with computers, how to handle large amounts of information, build networks, create websites, develop video games, create computer animations, learn robotics, and much more.

About the Department

The Department of Computer Science is a part of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and offers courses at both Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.

The Department of Computer Science offers three degrees: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) as a broad-field major, Master of Science (MS) with a major in computer science, and Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT). The BSCS degree is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

COVID-19 Update

As of 8/10, classes have been transferred to Online Synchronous and Online Asynchronous. Contact your professors to find out how their classes will be taught this Fall 2020!

CS Student Lab - EIEAB 1.203

The CS Student Lab is open to all Computer Science and Computer Engineering students to come do work, attend online classes, or just hang out and meet other students!

Some of our computers have built-in webcams, just make sure to use headphones for class!

The Open Student Lab is open from 8 AM - 8 PM on Monday - Thursday and from 8 AM - 5 PM on Friday.
