Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the College of Education and P-16 Integration at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. This is an exciting time for UTRGV as we continue our journey as the first new university in the 21st century. Through our legacy institutions, the college has served an integral role in preparing teachers, leaders, and counselors to serve our student population. We continue this tradition through strong university-school-community partnerships that emphasize rich clinical experiences and cutting edge technology.

Our vision is to be the catalyst for educational success by:

  • Providing rigorous programs of study founded on the belief that scholarship and life experiences are strengthened when integrated, that diversity in all its manifestations is a fundamental component of excellence in education, and that partnerships that foster authentic social and community engagement are vital.
  • Engaging in continuous improvement through curricular and technological innovation;
  • Developing highly effective innovative scholars, learning leaders, and education professionals who challenge the status quo and serve as change agents; and;
  • Leading through evidence-based decision-making, and data literacy in order to share our story with the academic and research communities, as well as our public school partners, families and policy makers.

The College of Education and P-16 Integration (CEP) is committed to student success and providing resources and support for faculty to engage in teaching, research, and service, with an emphasis on community engagement. It is this collaborative spirit that guides all we do. We believe in the power of education to transform our community. Our tagline captures this belief… It Starts Here.

We offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees in our five departments: Teaching and Learning, Bilingual and Literacy Studies, Human Development and School Services, Counseling, and Organization and School Leadership. Our Educator Preparation Program is accredited and recognized for meeting national standards of excellence through the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). In addition, our Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction was recently ranked 8th in the nation of “Best Online Ed.D. & Ph.D. Programs in Education” by Gradsource.

Be sure to access our 2015-2016 Annual Report, which provides a glimpse into the fine work our faculty and staff are engaged in and our outreach into the community.

We invite you to join us as we work together to prepare the educators, leaders, and counselors our students and families deserve.
