TEA Observation Training
Course Description:
The TEA Observation Training is an all-day workshop designed to equip university field supervisors with knowledge and skills to mentor clinical (student) teachers or internship teachers. Ideal for university field supervisors who support clinical (student) teachers or internship teachers who have been admitted to an Educator Preparation Program (EPP) on or after December 27, 2016, this collaborative session serves to meet current Texas Administrative Code §228.35 (g) requirements for field supervision in the ongoing EPP support for initial certification of teachers.
Provided by UTRGV faculty and a T-TESS certified trainer, this training includes:
- Rationale for the training
- An overview of the T-TESS domains and rubric
- A review of the role of the a field supervisor
- An overview of the evaluation cycle: pre-conference, observation, post-conference
- A review of the elements of an effective lesson
- Instruction in planning for and conducting a pre-conference
- Practice in conducting a pre-conference
- Instruction in and practice in collecting evidence during an observation
- Practice in categorizing evidence collected during an observation and connecting it to the domains
- Instruction in preparing for and conducting an observation debrief
- Practice in conducting a post observation debrief
- Instruction in and practice in coaching and encouraging teacher reflection through questioning

The TEA Observation Training is for anyone who will serve as a university field supervisor or an alternative certification field supervisor of clinical (student) teachers or interns. This training serves to meet current Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §228.35 (g) requirements for field supervision in the ongoing Educator Preparation Program (EPP) support for initial certification of teachers. This training is ideal for retired teachers who are looking for part-time employment as field supervisors and seeking to meet TAC requirements.
