Welcome

The Border Studies Archive (BSA) is a research and data-driven repository dedicated to documenting the complex dynamics of the U.S.–Mexico border region, with a focus on South Texas. Housed within the University Library and affiliated with the Department of Anthropology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, BSA functions as both an archival repository and a research hub for the study of border dynamics.

Its holdings encompass a wide range of materials addressing militarization, environmental justice, migration, governance, health, and regional development. By supporting both qualitative and quantitative approaches, BSA provides scholars, practitioners, and policymakers with the tools to examine the historical and contemporary forces shaping life along the border.

Mission

The Border Studies Archive (BSA) promotes rigorous, data-informed, and community-grounded research on the U.S. Mexico border. Serving as an interdisciplinary center for collaboration, BSA integrates archival preservation, applied social research, and experiential learning to foster evidence-based understanding of regional challenges.

Through partnerships with academic departments, public institutions, and community organizations, BSA advances the co-production of knowledge that informs equitable policy, supports pedagogy, and strengthens public access to research on the borderlands.
