2019 Southwest Texas Asian Symposium

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 3rd Southwest Texas Asian Symposium, which will be held at Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Friday, November 1, 2019. The theme of this year’s symposium is Convergence and Beyond, highlighting our mission to facilitate new collaborations within and across disciplines. This symposium is co-organized by the Asian Studies Minor program at UTRGV (https://www.utrgv.edu/asian-studies/) and Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association Texas Coastal Bend Chapter (KSEA-TCB) (https://tcb.ksea.org/).
The Southwest Texas Asian Symposium is a forum for scholars, teachers, practitioners and students to promote collaborations and explore a wide array of disciplines including Cultural Studies, Education, Health Sciences, International Affairs, Languages, Social Sciences and STEM.
Research Areas of Interest include, but are not limited to:
- Arts, Humanities, Languages, and Cultural Studies

Abstract Submission

- Submission Deadline: 5 pm on Friday, September 27, 2019

2019 SWTAS is accepting abstracts for two types of presentations: oral presentation and poster presentation. Please indicate your choice of presentation types in the keywords section. All abstracts will be blind-reviewed by two reviewers, and the selected speakers will be notified by Oct 7, 2019.
Oral Presentation:
Abstracts should be original research on empirical research studies, teaching methodologies, artistic works, or other scholarly projects. The selected speakers are expected to give a 15-minute presentation followed by a 5-minute Q&A.
Poster Presentation (for undergraduate and graduate students
Three categories:
- Research Critique: for critique of a published research article
- Review of Literature: for more in-depth presentation of a topic
- Original Research: for presentation of student-led research
Symposium on site Registration (cash only): Session chairs, discussants, forum speakers, and presenters are required to register. Lunch and coffee will be provided for the registered symposium attendees.
- Faculty and Non-students: $30
- Students (including post-doctoral fellows): $10
