Asian Studies, Interdisciplinary Minor
The Minor in Asian Studies will provide a coherent and well-guided pathway for our students to develop academic and research foundation of Asian studies, communicative language proficiency, and cultural understandings. With a variety of courses in this interdisciplinary minor, students will acquire in-depth knowledge of the region and facilitate discussions on critical issues of Asia. It will be an important avenue of access to training of academic, linguistic, and cultural competence to become global-minded professionals in the areas of students’ majors.
Upon the completion of the Minor in Asian Studies, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate working knowledge of history, culture, and language of an Asian country, in
relation to the students’ academic majors or concentrated disciplines. - Discuss critical issues of a modern society of Asian country with in-depth understandings of
politics, society, culture, arts, performances, or history of the country. - Develop basic communicative competence in at least one Asian language for active and collaborative
intercultural communications. - Develop intermediate proficiency of an Asian language with appropriate sociocultural uses of
the language in communicative and professional contexts
